Happy Tax Day!

by Rate Nerd on April 15, 2009

ratenerd-photoI really don’t have much to say today.

I paid the highest amount of taxes ever in my life for the year 2008, which is a good thing in one respect.  But when the AMT kicked in, I got pretty upset.  My accountant explained that the trigger for my AMT was the amount of tax I paid in 2008, specifically property and state taxes.  So the fact that I paid a lot of taxes, this in turn triggered the AMT so that I can pay more taxes.

Am I missing something here?  Are any congressmen or senators reading this?

So this post comes to you as I am enjoying the beach in Waikiki for Easter break, enjoying the bit of money that Uncle Sam allowed me to keep for myself and my family.  Happy Tax Day!
